Pentazocine, A Powerful Pain Reliever

Pentazocine is a drug with analgesic  properties . Pain relievers generally relieve pain.

Pentazocine is a drug for oral, intramuscular and intravenous administration. Although it also accepts the rectal route. The most used administration is oral. It has a good oral absorption and presents the maximum levels in the blood after 15-30 minutes. Its  effect lasts approximately 3 hours.  It is mainly eliminated in the urine.

Adverse reactions

This drug is safe if prescribed by a doctor and the instructions for use are followed. But, if the doses are raised, undesirable psychological effects can appear, such as hallucinations.

It can also trigger the following effects:

• Respiratory problems.
• Sweating and hot flashes
• Blood problems, such as a reduction in certain white blood cells.
• Nausea and vomiting, constipation, diarrhea, or anorexia.
• Cardiovascular effects such as hypertension, hypotension, tachycardia.
• Seizures, dizziness, headache, disturbed dreams.

Interactions

Pentazocine interacts with many drugs, so caution must be exercised with its administration. Interactions can affect the processes of drug release, absorption, distribution, metabolism, and excretion. They can also enhance or decrease its effects.
